Role Overview


UMENCO is recruiting a detail-oriented Designer for an acclaimed luxury fashion house that has affirmed itself as an Australian design icon.

In this pivotal role, the Designer will drive the successful delivery of seasonal collections, alongside managing the creative and conceptual direction of each collection, in union with the Creative Director. 

The primary divisions of responsibility for this position traverse design research and ideation, sample collection management, range development, process innovation, and budget control.

In performing their duties, the Designer will undertake comprehensive design research, developing and creating original design ideas, concepts, and applications.

They will oversee the seasonal sample collections from sketch to sample sign-off while implementing and managing the sampling budget, working closely with the sales team to ensure each collection achieves commercial goals.

In addition, the Designer will manage all design, print, colour, and fabric developments, as well as fabric research and sourcing, and the seasonal ordering of all sampling supplies.

They will monitor and assign daily workloads for machinists, cutters, and pattern makers, and will implement their technical and construction knowledge to assess garments with respect to price point, while maintaining design integrity.

They will also work to expand categories and develop ranges, identifying commercial opportunities and introducing cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high-quality standards.

Across their work, they will continually ensure that all deadlines are met, that the critical path is followed, and that the schedule of design, sourcing, patterns and sample making is in accordance with the design calendar.

The talent we seek will be obsessive about detail, have impeccable taste, demonstrate outstanding technical garment construction knowledge, and will possess a thorough understanding of luxury products.

They will present with systems proficiencies across Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and will demonstrate exemplary verbal and written communication skills, along with a proactive, efficient and hardworking disposition.
