Design Room Manager

Brand Story

This fashion brand is a modern Australian icon, melding artisanal sensibilities with effortless essentials.

Role Overview

UMENCO is recruiting an organised and accountable personality to join a design-led team at one of Australia’s most coveted brands in the role of Design Room Manager.

The successful talent will join a supportive team environment, working with the General Manager of Design and supporting a thriving and fast-paced design team to ensure collections are delivered on time and to the brand’s high-quality standard.

This role is results-driven and process-oriented, with a scope to build on existing development systems and implement new processes in the design room, to ensure business goals and key deadlines are met and all collections meet their performance benchmarks.

Forward planning, clear communication of deadlines, and ensuring the workflow is well organised within the design team are all key to achieving these goals. With this in mind, the successful talent will be skilled in planning ahead and anticipate potential challenges to direct the team through the development period. They’ll also have the agility to quickly react to changes and developments in a realistic timeframe.

The successful talent will be responsible for the sourcing and product development of the brand’s seasonal collections including the coordination of an international sample room and factory prototypes, fittings, and management of team workflow in order to maintain the critical path, hitting key design deadlines and performance KPIs.

The successful talent will also own the product development schedule, updating, and refining as needed, and ensure all collections meet costings and margin benchmarks, and the pricing hierarchies set in the option plan.

This role encompasses the scope of the brand’s design categories including women’s apparel and seasonal collaborations, with the opportunity to influence development of new categories. This includes introducing new suppliers into the brand’s supply chain, and implementing new processes and category-specific schedules if needed.

The successful applicant will be proficient in building on existing foundations in the design room and drive new initiatives for the future performance of the team. This requires a proactive and accountable individual who can match creative and commercial expectations as well as identify and introduce new development opportunities into the range.

Our perfect talent will hold a minimum of 7 years of experience as a Design Room Manager and possess an extended knowledge of all design and production functions.

They will have proven stakeholder engagement both at a senior level, from direct team and any external teams; knowledge and understanding of garment construction and pattern making, an existing network of suppliers, and sourcing methods (both domestic and offshore); and proven experience developing new suppliers in line with brand production guidelines.

They will hold systems skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, internet research and sourcing, Photoshop and Illustrator, and strong technical knowledge coupled with an understanding of industry-approved quality control standards and procedures.
