Role Overview
UMENCO is recruiting a talented menswear Designer to join the team at an esteemed contemporary Australian menswear brand.
We are seeking an emergent design talent with a strong aptitude for elevated menswear design – an adept creative collaborator who is skilled at contributing to the creative and development process and supporting the effective execution of high quality, commercial collections.
The successful talent’s input will extend across all elements of the creative process, playing a pivotal role in the conceptualisation, design and development of seasonal collections to brand standards. This will include combining a commercial approach to trend and colour research, and fabric sourcing and selection, coupled with an ability to convey ideas through sketching and technical illustrations.
They will be responsible to ensure the timely completion of design briefs, maintaining accurate records and managing processes within the design room through to completion, therefore the knowledge of the critical path is essential. Aligned to the businesses exceptional quality standards, tenured experience and understanding of proportion, fits and finish will be essential. To ensure that construction accurately reflects the design intentions the successful Designer will collaborate effectively with garment technicians, sample machinists and pattern makers to execute high qualities of finish across all products and overcome technical design obstacles.
An innate alignment with the brand’s aesthetic, coupled with innovative creative instincts, a proactive work ethic, team-focused orientation and openness to feedback are essential.
The successful talent will hold a degree in fashion from a respected institution and a minimum of three years of experience in a design role within the fashion industry. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, along with a strong technical knowledge of garments and fabrics are necessary.
