Role Overview


UMENCO is recruiting a passionate General Manager for an emerging, responsibly-made, Australian womenswear brand during a period of exceptional performance and exciting growth.

In this role, the General Manager will spearhead the commercial and operational leadership across the business and will drive the business’ overall strategic direction, engaging the team to execute and deliver on all business objectives and commercial outcomes.

They will be responsible for communicating with the wider leadership and management team, delivering recommendations for business-wide improvements and new opportunities as they work to deliver efficient and accurate systems and reporting. 

The General Manager will also be accountable for budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning across the business; preparing annual budgets and in-season re-forecasts; managing weekly cash management; analysing new business investments and expenditure, and recommending growth opportunities.

They will be responsible for analysing the brand’s sales performance and position to recommend and action trading decisions, alongside preparing post-season reviews that evolve and improve each collection and maximise missed opportunities from prior seasons.

As an inherent people leader, the General Manager will work to support employee performance, ensuring that productivity is high and innovation and creativity are nurtured and encouraged. 

They will consistently lead by example to attract, recruit, induct and retain talented team members, and will conduct yearly performance reviews with a view to train, develop and motivate the team.

The talent we seek will be able to motivate and develop their team, and will be practical and hands-on in their approach across all their duties, and will be able to perpetually drive the brand’s vision, values, and purpose throughout the organisation.

They will be highly motivated, passionate, and connected to the brand’s vision, and will demonstrate accountability, organisation, and the ability to be visionary in their thinking.

The suitable talent will have a background as a retail trader, buyer, or merchandise planner, with a thorough understanding of retail sales and stock management metrics, advanced analytical skills, and an inquisitive and performance-driven nature.

They will have proven experience in effectively managing cash flow to exceed budgeted sales targets and budgeted gross profit targets and will be able to identify and understand trends in trading results to prepare researched and well-reasoned re-forecasts, alongside clearly defined strategy presentations.
