Role Overview


UMENCO is recruiting an experienced Commercial Operations Manager to join the team at social enterprise charity The Social Outfit, whose mission is to provide employment and training to people from refugee and new migrant communities through their ethical manufacturing studio and retail store.

In this newly created role, the Commercial Operations Manager will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer to oversee The Social Outfit’s business operations.

The Commercial Operations Manager will assume a key leadership position in the business, with a focus on increasing sales, expanding the contract manufacturing portfolio, and developing other sustainable and viable revenue-generating and business development activities.

As they lead the continued growth of The Social Outfit’s online and in-store sales, they will identify, negotiate and manage contract manufacturing opportunities to achieve enhanced business outcomes, simultaneously developing, tracking, and delivering key indicators for commercial performance. 

The Commercial Operations Manager will also develop business and operational plans; undertake regular risk management analysis and implement strategies to manage/mitigate risks; monitor business processes to identify and implement efficiency improvements, and oversee the organisation’s compliance with statutory requirements and systems and processes compliance.

In addition, they will work closely with the CEO to prepare and review organisational budgets and sales targets, including developing an annual budget alongside the Treasurer for Committee of Management approval.

Adjacent to this, the Commercial Operations Manager will lead business forecasting and prepare timely and accurate financial performance reports, monitoring progress against daily and monthly sales targets in line with the annual sales revenue forecast.

The talent we seek will present with experience in a social enterprise environment and/or a detailed understanding of the characteristics and challenges of social enterprise and will hold demonstrated experience in a leadership role driving business growth, financial, and/or sales results.

They will have a sound knowledge of the fashion industry – including the retail environment and contract manufacturing, and proven experience in business development.
