Role Overview


UMENCO is recruiting an experienced Head of Operations to join the team at one of Australia’s most successful multi-branded fashion houses, working across a suite of iconic labels.

Reporting to the General Manager, this executive-level role will work cross-functionally to extend a birds-eye view across all business operations and will manage the commercial outputs and opportunities across logistics, warehousing, supply chain, and IT infrastructure.

The Head of Operations is a key member of the senior leadership team and will own and improve processes, systems, relationships, and capabilities throughout all levels to ensure the business is able to achieve profitability, scalability and efficiency to position it as a best in class multi-channel (retail, wholesale, e-commerce) and multi-brand business.

The primary responsibilities of the Head of Operations include mentoring and leading their team to deliver to the department’s long and short-term strategies and measurables; working collaboratively with the senior leadership team to lead business improvement projects, and overseeing the team that manages all logistics and last-mile capabilities within the business, to ensure all BAU delivery requirements are met.

The successful talent will work across logistics to develop and implement a leading-edge supply chain network that ensures the most efficient and customer-centric outcomes for the business; guide the success of current and future inventory management and fulfillment plans to ensure accuracy, efficiency and profitability are balanced; and will build and maintain a strategic plan based on people and process capability and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance and future risks are managed. 

They will also drive system and operational improvements that will increase delivery efficiencies and result in lower cost per delivery goals; develop and create export shipping schedule management through route to market optimisation; provide analysis, insights, and predictive measures across logistics performance, and develop and implement logistics policies and best practice guides for the organisation.

Overseeing IT and systems, the Head Of Operations will own the development and implementation plans for the operational infrastructure of systems and processes that are designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the business, as well as leading business intelligence reporting technology to ensure the wider team has access to data and key insights.

They will also identify and act on opportunities to improve and update software and systems, and lead on the design and implementation of all bespoke application development and system integration projects to a high-quality standard. Additionally, they will develop and implement IT policy and best practice guides for the organisation to ensure compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, as well as creating and managing short-and long-term technology contingency plans.

In this role, the Head of Operations will monitor changes or advancements in industry evolutions within retail operations, logistics, and IT, and advise ways that the company can gain a competitive advantage. Alongside this, they will maintain financial responsibility for all aspects of the role, advising management and suggesting actions if necessary.

The ideal talent will present with at least 8 years of experience managing complex business operations and strategies within logistics and supply chain, operations management, and IT infrastructure management.

They will have a background in designing/developing IT systems and experience working with and auditing domestic and international suppliers.

They will have demonstrated knowledge of the product development cycle, with experience in critical path management, capacity planning, cost management, quality control, and compliance.

In addition, the successful talent will hold outstanding verbal and written skills, with the ability to effectively negotiate contracts and commercial supplier agreements with external stakeholders and vendors, as well as the ability to analyse business operations and manage complex budgets successfully.
