Role Overview

UMENCO is recruiting with the opportunity for an experienced Senior Designer to join one of Australia and New Zealand’s leading luxury-driven athleisure brands.

In this pivotal creative role, the Senior Designer will lead the creative and commercial vision for the brand, playing a critical role in its success by building on its current foundations to solidify a distinct position in the athleisure market.

They will cultivate the relationship between the product, the customer, and the retail experience to deliver beautiful, innovative, sustainable, technically advanced, and fashion-forward collections that champion the development of cult core styles.

They will work across multidisciplinary design and a broad range of activewear, RTW apparel, accessories, and key ancillary products to establish the brand’s reputation as multi-piece outfitting destination.

The Senior Designer will build a solid foundation of core brand fabrications and iconic trims and graphics, as well as constantly sourcing and developing new techniques and materials at the forefront of trends and technological advances in the fashion and athleisure industries.

In all that they do, they will work to ensure cohesion between the business’s suite of brands, presenting unified collections of athletic wear that reflect the sensibilities of a fashion house. They will champion a constantly evolving vision of activewear with attention to unique details, proportions, and colour stories that connect with the fashion and the artistic universe, to maintain a strong, recognisable, and unique offering in the market.

In this role, the Senior Designer will be responsible for ensuring that sustainability targets are met and constantly improved and exceeded, and all processes during the development phase meet the brand’s standard practices.

The talent we seek will have a robust understanding of price points, margins, fabrication, construction techniques, and experience developing supplier relationships. In exercising this knowledge, they will ensure each piece is designed to maximise profitability and reach business targets for the collection.

This is an end-to-end role, where the Senior Designer will manage their own deadlines, critical path, margins, and supplier developments, reporting on progress and signing-off with the Design Room Manager and the General Manager of Design.

The successful talent will present with five years of experience, with a specialist background in activewear. They will hold impeccable attention to detail and organisation skills, have a proven track record working with offshore manufacturing and technical management of suppliers, and hold a strong technical knowledge of fit, pattern making and construction across performance activewear including lycra, fleece, cut and sew, spray styles and wovens.

They will have an innate aptitude for trend forecasting and an inherent understanding of the brand’s creative handwriting.

They will have excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills applicable to both internal and external stakeholders, and will be able to manage competing priorities and timelines and ensure priorities are met and managed based on the importance and timeframe and critical path.
