Role Overview
UMENCO is currently recruiting a Design Manager to join a contemporary Australian womenswear brand, known for their thoughtful, timeless designs.
The Design Manager will play a central role within this expanding brand. Reporting to the Head of Design, this role requires a highly organised and creatively driven individual who can seamlessly balance ideation, execution and team coordination. Acting as the key conduit across the design function, this role ensures all development, communication and workflow processes are aligned and operating effectively.
With a minimum of three years experience in the fashion industry, the successful talent will bring a strong understanding of end-to-end collection development. The Design Manager will lead design operations across all categories, managing seasonal calendars, overseeing the progression of each style and ensuring timely delivery from concept through to production handover. The role also involves hands-on contribution to the collection, including sketching, draping and supporting innovation across fabrication, trims and finishes.
Working closely with the Head of Design as well as patternmakers, sample makers and production teams, the Design Manager will drive collaboration across both internal and external partners. This includes managing workflows, overseeing fittings and technical development, maintaining tech packs and ensuring clear and consistent communication with vendors. The role will also support sourcing and developing new manufacturing partners, while maintaining strong relationships across the supply chain.
The ideal talent will combine a refined understanding of the brand’s aesthetic with strong technical expertise in patternmaking and garment construction. Highly organised and detail-oriented, the Design Manager will bring excellent communication skills, proficiency across Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, and a proactive, forward-thinking approach. A genuine interest in textiles, design innovation and the broader creative landscape is essential, along with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
