Role Overview
UMENCO is seeking a Garment Technician for a female-founded brand whose designs are centred around key seasonal styles and modern tailored essentials.
The Garment Technician will be responsible for establishing and maintaining fit standards and quality across all product and textiles categories throughout their lifecycle. This role involves close collaboration with the production and design teams to ensure the accurate translation of design concepts into high-quality final products The Garment Technician will provide technical expertise on garment construction and international quality compliance, ensuring garments are manufactured according to specifications and guidelines with a keen eye for detail.
Key responsibilities include creating standard measurements and fits across product categories, maintaining working manuals and documents and developing patterns and blocks from scratch or modifying existing patterns for suppliers. The Garment Technician works with the design team to create samples in-house, prepare technical packs for suppliers and assist with fabric selection for new developments. Additionally, they manage fit models, conduct fit sessions and provide feedback on fit, construction, measurements and alterations to ensure adherence to the critical path.
The role also involves daily communication with factories and suppliers to ensure product fit and quality standards are met. The Garment Technician will review samples such as SMS, PP and shipping samples, ensuring they align with tech packs and are of the desired quality. They also manage care instructions, approve necessary testing and ensure compliance with international labelling and testing standards. Additionally, the Garment Technician will work with the production team to address any faults or issues with bulk production before shipment.
The successful talent will possess strong computer literacy in Microsoft Office, QA and pattern-making software, alongside a solid understanding of garment construction, pattern-making, grading and the retail fit and approval process. The Garment Technician will have extensive experience in a technical position within the fashion industry and a tertiary qualification in Fashion Technology or a related field. This role requires a professional and collaborative attitude with a commitment to occupational healthy and safety standards and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
