A message of gratitude from Angela and the team at UMENCO Talent. And in the spirit of sharing, friends of UMENCO impart favourite lessons and silver linings from the year that was.
“Every day is a renewal, every morning the daily miracle. This joy you feel is life.”
– Gertrude Stein
As this year comes to a close, we want to say thank you to our UMENCO clients, talent and community.
It’s been a challenging year, with silver linings in the strength and confidence cultivated with the knowledge we can make decisions that align with our vision and values – even when things aren’t as we planned.
“It’s been a challenging year - however the silver linings have been lessons of the strength and confidence that you can cultivate, knowing that you can face hurdles and make decisions aligning with your visions and values even when things are challenging. I also love the genuine sense of community that’s emerged, and the important conversations about inclusivity and diversity.”

This year has crystallised exceptional leadership in our industry – with good working cultures becoming incredible working cultures and a genuine strengthening of community.
It has seen important conversations about inclusivity and diversity come to the forefront.
And it has seen innovation in the realms of sustainability, responsibility, connectivity, and customer experience – along with recognition for those who have been working tirelessly in these spheres for years prior, in service to the future.
“2020 has been an interesting and challenging year for so many reasons, whether it’s in business or personal life. With hard border closures, loss of work, polarising sickness outside of COVID and long lock downs that have continued to impact the community. It has been unchartered waters for all, as no one has been here before. People have always been at the core of what I do, however this year it’s never been more true. If you look after people and put them first they will look after you. Lead with integrity, humility and grace.”

In the final days of 2020 we are taking pause, to reflect and to express our appreciation to those we hold dearest. We’re sending love to those who can’t physically be with their families, chosen or otherwise, this year – and to those in our community for whom this season is the busiest.

“2020 forced me to re-evaluate what I thought I knew I wanted. It taught me to be flexible and resilient – that my plans, while well-meaning, are at the whim of the universe. I value these lessons greatly. I think 2020 has, in the end, changed me for the better.”
